The Shelby County Public Library Board is governed by a five-member Board of Trustees.

  • The trustees are appointed by the Shelby County Judge-Executive on the recommendation of the Kentucky Department of Library and Archives of two (2) names for each vacancy.

  • Board members will represent a cross-section of the community.

  • Each member is appointed for a four (4) year term, limited to two (2) consecutive terms.

  • The Library Board of Trustees is responsible for establishing Library policy, authorizing services provided by the Library, establishing the Library budget, and hiring the Library Director.

  • Library Board members do not receive compensation for their services.

  • The Shelby County Public Library Board of Trustees meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 12:00 PM. 

  • The meetings are open to the public. Agendas are posted 24 hours prior to the meeting.

Request to address the Board

  • Citizens are always welcome to speak to the Board, however, are also reminded that they may address their concerns directly at any time to the library director. Written comments may be left at the circulation desk.

  • Speaker’s comments should be in good taste and remarks about specific individuals are not allowed.

  • Business presentations should be handled directly through the library director rather than use of a request to speak request.

  • Persons who wish to speak to the library board are asked to complete this form. Please note that the board of trustees may or may not be able to respond at this meeting to all questions, requests for information, or requests for action.

  • Comments will be limited to five minutes.
